Cultural and Artistic Regeneration

Save the date: 03 May 2024

Dr. Oleksandra Nenko, senior researcher at University of Turku is presenting the affordances provided by artistic rethinking of the post industrial areas. The case studies include creative tactical and strategic transformations of industrial buildings and their environments in Helsinki, Tallinn, Łódź, and Kharkiv. This lecture is part of the lecture series Urban Transformation  that is organized in the Remote Lab of Urban Planning, funded by DAAD.

The lecture reflects upon the potentialities of emotional, symbolic, social, and material place-making with the arts. The lecture develops conceptual interpretations of art(culture)-led place-based change, links them with analysis of particular dimensions of the spatial transformation, and questions the limitations of artistic intervention into the former functionally ordered locales of urban modernity.
